Analysis of competitiveness at the national level does not capture regional disparities. This Brown Bag Lunch (BBL) will discuss how, through the use of different analytical tools, we can understand why some states have been able to develop competitive advantages in specific industries while others have not. It is based on research of manufacturing and state competitiveness of Indian states and presents findings on the long-drawn nature of agglomeration effects and the crucial role that history plays in formation of clusters. More importantly, the BBL shows how agglomeration effects boost regional competitiveness. Dr. Amit Kapoor delivered a lecture at the Brown Bag Lunch series of World bank on April 11, 2017 in New Delhi.
